Resisting the lure of splendor
In endless time I meditate
Maintaining this timeless form
For ten thousand tomes to rest

Never have I turned a page
Yet words already carve
Their varied depths in my core
History's skeleton, time's ink
Outlining future contours
All silently preserved within me

When sunset gilds the west
And children's laughter fades
When the bespectacled elder withdraws
Volumes that roamed all day
Nestle wearily in my embrace
To rest in silent slumber
