我用黄色的球
点缀秋天的山丘。
我用一团团的金橙与黄褐色
点亮草原和玉米田
我是南瓜。
十月的最后一天
暮色降临后
孩子们手拉手
围着我
唱妖魔鬼怪的歌
唱赞美收获月的歌；
我是长有一口烂牙的
杰克南瓜灯
孩子们都知道
我是捣蛋鬼。
 

Theme in Yellow

With yellow balls in autumn.
I light the prairie cornfields
Orange and tawny gold clusters
And I am called pumpkins.
On the last of October
When dusk is fallen
Children join hands
And circle round me
Singing ghost songs
And love to the harvest moon;
I am a jack-o'-lantern
With terrible teeth
And the children know
I am fooling.

美国诗人、历史学家、小说家、民谣歌手、民俗学研究者，曾三次获得普利策奖。
其中两次為他的詩歌，一次為他为亚伯拉罕·林肯写的传記。
